Overview

This role involves working as a professional assistant within a department that supports multiple business areas such as Investments (residential, commercial, and/or securities), Corporate, Legislative/Regulatory, Products (group, individual, pension), Debtor/Creditor, Tax, Exam coordination, and Governmental compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage highly complex, large projects with a high degree of independence and initiative, including project planning, setting objectives, and ensuring goal attainment.
  • Set and approve guidelines and procedures, direct negotiations, advance strategies, and promote alternative solutions for clients, outside counsel, insurance departments, courts, and government agencies.
  • Conduct complex legal and/or legislative research; analyze legislation, regulations, laws, statutes, and administrative rules; and inform department lawyers, clients, outside counsel, and courts.
  • Draft highly complex legal and legislative/regulatory memoranda, documents, and forms to address various legal and legislative issues.
  • Develop systems, policies, and procedures for the department or organization.
  • Share expertise across multiple work areas and manage workflow for more than one area.
  • Develop and monitor training objectives and plans.
  • Create, organize, and maintain various systems and procedures used in the department.
  • Contribute to and maintain procedural and substantive manuals for the department's clients.
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of related legal and/or legislative/regulatory experience.
  • Paralegal certificate or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Broad expertise in more than one area of law.
  • Extensive knowledge of relevant state and federal statutes, regulations, and case law.
  • Ability to transfer skills and work independently in multiple areas of the department.
  • Excellent legal/legislative research and project management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range (non-exempt hourly; exempt yearly): $33.32 - $60.58 per hour.
  • Examples of annual salary ranges by location for the Paralegal Analyst role:
    • Dubuque, IA / Wichita, KS / Grand Island, NE: $69,300 - $94,500
    • Des Moines, IA / Louisville, KY / Green Bay, WI: $73,150 - $99,750
    • St. Louis, MO / Pittsburgh, PA / Charlotte, NC: $77,000 - $105,000
    • Denver, CO / Houston, TX / Chicago, IL / Minneapolis, MN: $84,700 - $115,500
    • Seattle, WA / Los Angeles, CA / New York City, NY: $92,400 - $126,000
  • Non-sales positions may participate in a bonus program.
  • Personal Time Off (PTO) is provided to hourly employees for vacation, personal time, or short-term illness.
  • Pension eligible.
