Overview

This role is for a Paralegal who will provide essential support to a lean Legal Department. The position involves substantive legal, administrative, and operational assistance to advance the organization's mission. The Paralegal will report to Legal Counsel and may be based in Kansas City, Missouri, or work fully remotely. This is a ministerial position requiring agreement with and adherence to the organization's Christian Community Statement, spiritual leadership, and conduct consistent with biblical standards.

Ministerial Duties

  • Agree with and abide by the Christian Community Statement.
  • Maintain a spiritual rhythm including daily prayer and Bible study.
  • Provide spiritual leadership to staff, volunteers, coaches, and athletes through prayer, Bible study, worship, and example.
  • Participate regularly in a local church.
  • Conduct oneself in a manner affirming biblical standards of conduct.

Responsibilities

  • Support real estate transactions by coordinating due diligence, conducting research, and assisting with acquisitions and closings.
  • Manage the trademark portfolio, including deadline management and preparing filings under supervision.
  • Assist with litigation management by monitoring case activity and deadlines, managing litigation holds, coordinating discovery, and liaising with outside counsel.
  • Coordinate contract management and board governance databases, execute documents, collect signatures, and handle corporate filings.
  • Draft and edit communications, contracts, and legal documents for attorney use.
  • Manage timelines, deliverables, and communications for Legal Department projects and provide administrative support.
  • Organize and maintain institutional legal knowledge for organizational use.
  • Maintain legal department expenses, invoices, and outside counsel billing records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Legal Counsel.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Paralegal certification from an ABA-approved program preferred.
  • Prior experience as a paralegal or legal assistant preferred.
  • Experience in real estate law, intellectual property law, litigation, contract management, and board governance preferred.
  • National paralegal certification such as NALA Certified Paralegal (CP) or NFPA Registered Paralegal (RP) preferred.
