Overview
This role involves assisting with research activities, executing legal transactions, and preparing and processing legal documents.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine legal assignments with work reviewed by supervisors.
- Investigate facts and routine legal matters.
- Make recommendations to supervisors after researching standard legal issues.
- Create and implement paper and electronic document collection, review, production, and tracking systems with minimal supervision.
- Understand e-discovery and computer forensics concepts including litigation holds, data preservation, and chain of custody.
- Develop and maintain case file and organizational systems for electronic case files.
- Compile, review, and analyze documents as required by attorneys, determining necessary information.
- Communicate and correspond with clients and external entities such as government agencies, expert witnesses, vendors, corporations, and other law firms to gather information.
- Serve as a factual resource on cases and demonstrate knowledge of case documents.
- Assist with department projects and perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to ethical rules regarding confidentiality and client representation.
- Collaborate professionally with clients, attorneys, colleagues, and administrators.
- Support matters at any level as a member of the paralegal team.
- Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills.
- Take initiative and understand details within a larger context.
- Be flexible to respond quickly to shifting demands.
- Work independently with minimal supervision and as a team player in a fast-paced environment.
- Work effectively in a multi-office and virtual team environment.
- Take ownership of deliverables and be accountable.
Qualifications
- 0-2 years of paralegal experience.
- 2 years of formal legal training or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Effective communication skills with co-workers and other departments.
- Strong written and oral communication abilities.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines, manage multiple detailed tasks simultaneously, prioritize appropriately, and delegate when necessary.
- Deliver high-quality work and demonstrate follow-up and follow-through capabilities.
Working Conditions
- Hybrid office environment requiring 3 days per week in the office located in Cedar Rapids, IA.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $50,000 - $65,000 annually. Actual starting pay depends on qualifications, experience, geography, work location designation (in-office, hybrid, remote), and operational needs. Salary may vary above or below this range as permitted by law.
- Eligibility for an annual bonus based on individual performance and company bonus plan, at the organization's discretion.
