Overview

A full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple U.S. locations is seeking a Mass Tort Paralegal to support attorneys primarily in New York asbestos litigation. This role can be based in a virtual office or any firm location.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys with fact investigation, legal research, document preparation and production
  • Manage databases, docketing, and case management
  • Support discovery, deposition preparation, trial and mediation preparation
  • Analyze factual information and assist in preparing pleadings, motions, and briefs
  • Manage document production and case management databases
  • Schedule and calendar legal activities
  • Participate in trial work
  • Prepare fact and expert witness lists across jurisdictions
  • Maintain professional demeanor and comply with firm policies
  • Develop technical proficiency in database management and electronic research
  • Organize and manage files independently or delegate to Paralegal Assistants
  • Mentor Paralegal Assistants and supervise their work
  • Attend and participate in in-house continuing legal education (CLE) sessions
  • Anticipate attorney needs and handle key duties without supervision
  • Meet a billable hour requirement of 1500 hours per year
  • Deliver superior service and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues
  • Maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment
  • Lead and motivate others, including managing direct reports when applicable

Requirements

  • Litigation experience in New York required
  • Experience with New York asbestos litigation preferred
  • Location in New York preferred
  • Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field, or Associate’s degree with paralegal training
  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing business demands
  • Professional appearance and demeanor

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation varies based on skills, experience, location, and other legal factors. Expected salary ranges by location are:

  • California: $84,000 - $112,000
  • Colorado: $67,000 - $92,000
  • Illinois: $72,000 - $98,000
  • Maryland: $70,000 - $98,000
  • Massachusetts: $76,000 - $90,000
  • Minnesota: $89,000 - $100,000
  • Jersey City, NJ: $85,000 - $116,000
  • New York: $79,000 - $116,000
  • Washington State: $78,000 - $106,000
  • Washington, DC: $85,000 - $115,000

Bonus opportunities are discretionary and based on individual and firm performance.
