Overview
A full-service litigation and business law firm with multiple U.S. locations is seeking a Mass Tort Paralegal to support attorneys primarily in asbestos litigation within the New England area. This role can be based virtually or at any firm location, with a preference for candidates located in New England who have asbestos litigation experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist attorneys with fact investigation, legal research, document preparation and production.
- Manage databases, docketing, and case management systems.
- Support discovery, deposition preparation, trial and mediation preparation.
- Analyze factual information and assist in preparing pleadings, motions, and briefs.
- Manage document production and case management databases.
- Participate in trial activities.
- Maintain professional demeanor and comply with firm policies.
- Develop technical proficiency in database management, electronic research, and file maintenance.
- Organize and manage files independently or delegate tasks to Paralegal Assistants and Information Governance staff.
- Supervise and mentor Paralegal Assistants.
- Attend and participate in in-house continuing legal education (CLE) sessions.
- Anticipate attorney needs and handle key duties without supervision.
- Meet a billable hour requirement of 1,500 hours per year.
Requirements
- Mandatory experience in asbestos/toxic tort litigation.
- Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor’s degree in a law-related field; or Associate’s degree with paralegal training.
- Familiarity with e-filing protocols and online docket research in New England state and federal courts.
- Ability to deliver superior service and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues.
- Professional appearance and courteous interaction at all times.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and adapt to changing business demands.
- Produce quality work efficiently and accurately.
- Exercise sound judgment and decisiveness under deadlines.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate high professional integrity.
- Leadership skills to motivate and manage direct reports, including performance evaluation and employee development.
- Location in New England preferred but not required for candidates with asbestos litigation experience.
Compensation and Benefits
Compensation is commensurate with skills, experience, and location. Expected salary ranges by state/jurisdiction are:
- California: $84,000 - $112,000
- Colorado: $67,000 - $92,000
- Illinois: $72,000 - $98,000
- Maryland: $70,000 - $98,000
- Massachusetts: $76,000 - $90,000
- Minnesota: $89,000 - $100,000
- Jersey City, NJ: $85,000 - $116,000
- New York: $79,000 - $116,000
- Washington: $78,000 - $106,000
- Washington, DC: $85,000 - $115,000
Bonus opportunities are discretionary and based on individual and firm performance.
