Overview

A leading AI research lab is seeking experienced patent and compliance attorneys to assist in training and evaluating next-generation AI systems focused on specialized legal reasoning. This fully remote, flexible, project-based role involves authoring realistic legal scenarios and reviewing AI-generated outputs to ensure accuracy and practical relevance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop tasks and scenarios based on real patent and compliance workflows, including:
    • Patent drafting and prosecution
    • Claim construction
    • Invalidity/IPR analysis
    • Freedom to operate (FTO) opinions
    • Regulatory filings
    • Anti-money laundering (AML)/Bank Secrecy Act (BSA)
    • Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)
    • Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA)
    • Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
    • Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations
    • General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)/California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)
    • Export controls
  • Review and grade AI responses for legal accuracy, sound reasoning, and adherence to professional standards
  • Produce model "golden answer" responses with detailed rationale to enhance AI model training
  • Identify ambiguity, risk, and edge cases as a practicing attorney would

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of professional experience in patent law and/or regulatory compliance (law firm, in-house, regulator, or agency)
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent law degree (LL.B./LL.M.) from a recognized law school in the US, UK, or Canada
  • Active or inactive bar admission in a US, UK, or Canadian jurisdiction and/or registration with USPTO, CIPO, or UKIPO in good standing
  • For patent track:
    • Registered patent attorney or agent
    • Technical background in engineering, computer science, life sciences, or chemistry strongly preferred
  • For compliance track:
    • Practical experience with one or more of AML/BSA, OFAC, FCPA, HIPAA, FDA, GDPR/CCPA, or export control regimes
    • Certifications such as CIPP, CFE, or CAMS are a plus
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate complex legal reasoning
