Overview
The organization is seeking a Privacy and Data Protection Counsel to join its Legal team. This role supports legal guidance across the product development lifecycle, with a focus on privacy and data security. Work includes advising Product and Engineering teams and helping navigate legal and regulatory requirements in a complex financial legal and regulatory environment with broad market impact.
This position is fully remote and operates on standard business hours based on the local time zone.
Responsibilities
- Counsel Product, Marketing, and business teams throughout the product lifecycle on applicable legal and regulatory requirements and risks.
- Anticipate and identify legal and regulatory risks, and propose creative, effective solutions to mitigate those risks with a business-focused mindset.
- Draft and negotiate commercial agreements supporting business initiatives.
- Create and enforce data privacy policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Oversee data governance, data mapping, and retention policies.
- Ensure vendors comply with the organization’s data privacy and security requirements.
- Stay current on relevant industry and consumer protection laws and regulations.
- Partner with Marketing and go-to-market teams to ensure consumer-facing materials are compliant.
- Collaborate with the broader Legal & Compliance team on other corporate and enterprise initiatives as opportunities arise.
Requirements
- Knowledge and practical application of consumer protection laws and regulations, including RESPA, UDAAP, CCPA, GDPR, TCPA, and GLBA.
- Experience providing legal support for regulatory compliance in a law firm or in-house corporate environment.
- 7+ years of experience in a product counsel role at a law firm or in-house legal department.
- Digital fluency or a willingness to learn new technology.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel).
