Overview

A Privacy Attorney role is available to support the Chief Privacy Officer by interpreting privacy-related legislation, drafting internal policies and procedures, managing the internal privacy impact assessment (PIA) program, and providing legal advice to the Privacy Team and business units. This position offers practical guidance on strategic and tactical decisions affecting the organization and its clients.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a legal point of contact for the Privacy Team
  • Conduct legal research on privacy, security, and AI-related matters at federal, state, and international levels
  • Prepare and provide legal opinions on internal processes, data use cases, and special projects with guidance from the Chief Privacy Officer
  • Assess the impact of proposed laws, regulations, court cases, industry policies, and self-regulation policies to advise stakeholders on compliance
  • Maintain and update a list of relevant laws and regulations, tracking proposed legislation and informing stakeholders as needed
  • Participate in various internal and external committees
  • Lead strategic committees to ensure compliance with federal and state privacy and AI legislation
  • Provide legal oversight and approval for the Data Source Credentialing program when necessary
  • Act as an escalation point for areas including the consumer care team
  • Assist with escalations related to consumer opt-out requests, consumer inquiries, and legislative reporting issues

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in a state bar
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an attorney
  • Ability to identify legal issues and risks, negotiate contracts, conduct legal research, and draft memorandums advising the business on issues, risks, and options

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with key privacy and AI legislation and regulations in the U.S. and internationally
  • Self-study of products/services and understanding of regulatory and legislative impacts
