Overview

The organization is scaling its global privacy program alongside growth in its e-commerce, advertising, health, and AI-driven product lines, while the regulatory landscape continues to evolve.

This role is responsible for embedding privacy into how teams build and operate, providing clear, practical guidance so cross-functional partners—including product, engineering, data science, advertising, health, and business development—can move quickly with appropriate legal support for complex data governance decisions (including adtech and retail data sharing and AI product development).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor global privacy and data protection developments and translate enforcement trends into clear, actionable guidance for business stakeholders.
  • Review and counsel new products and business initiatives across e-commerce, advertising, health, and AI-driven product lines to ensure compliant design is built in from the start.
  • Establish and support frameworks for advertising data use, audience targeting, measurement, and consent, including well-governed restrictions on sensitive data in advertising contexts.
  • Assess and govern data sharing arrangements with retail partners, advertisers, vendors, and subsidiaries, ensuring appropriate agreements and cross-border transfer mechanisms (including DPA, BAA, SCCs, and DPF).
  • Strengthen privacy program operations by supporting PRAs and DPIAs; maintaining effective intake and documentation processes; and providing standard guidance, templates, playbooks, and training materials to make privacy requirements accessible and scalable across the organization.

Requirements

  • J.D. from a top-tier law school.
  • Membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California required or ability to register as in-house counsel).
  • 6+ years of experience focused on privacy and data protection, at a leading law firm, in-house, or both.
  • Deep working knowledge of CCPA, GDPR, HIPAA, and the evolving landscape of U.S. state privacy and health data laws.
  • Experience advising on adtech, data sharing, and consumer data use in a retail, e-commerce, or platform environment.
  • Strong ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical, business-oriented guidance for non-legal stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AI governance and privacy-by-design in ML/AI product development.
