Overview
A leading cybersecurity and identity-management software provider is seeking a Products & Compliance Counsel to join their team. This fast-growing organization develops critical solutions that help global enterprises secure, govern, and manage digital identities across complex hybrid environments. The role involves providing strategic legal guidance to product, legal, and compliance teams to ensure products comply with global laws and internal policies.
This is a fully remote position.
Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice to the product team on software development, licensing, third-party integrations, and vendor relationships.
- Manage compliance programs including export/trade compliance, intellectual property compliance, third-party software build materials, and accessibility requirements.
- Advise on open source software usage, ensuring proper licensing, risk mitigation, and policy compliance.
- Support the trade compliance program in accordance with applicable trade laws, export regulations, and international legal requirements.
- Collaborate with vendor management, procurement, and operations teams to assess legal and compliance risks related to third-party relationships.
- Provide guidance on data privacy and security matters, including cross-border data transfers, vendor data processing agreements, and privacy impact assessments.
- Draft, review, and negotiate agreements with customers, partners, vendors, and other third parties aligned with legal and business objectives.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership by identifying potential legal and compliance risks and recommending practical solutions.
- Stay current on regulatory developments and industry best practices related to product compliance, data privacy, export control, and intellectual property.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree with active bar admission.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as in-house counsel or in private practice supporting technology companies, preferably SaaS or enterprise software.
- Strong expertise in export/trade compliance, intellectual property compliance, and open-source software licensing.
- Experience advising product teams on legal issues throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Knowledge of data privacy laws and regulations such as GDPR and CCPA, with experience advising on privacy compliance for products and vendors.
- Familiarity with vendor management, contract negotiation, and risk assessment.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into actionable business guidance.
- Highly process-oriented with the ability to implement and improve compliance programs and workflows.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, and dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to support Pacific Time zone operations.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $160,000 to $180,000, based on experience, qualifications, credentials, and location.
- Eligibility for an annual performance-based bonus.
