Overview

The organization is seeking an experienced senior commercial attorney to help lead the North America Legal Team for a global sustainability and environmental risk consulting firm. This is a 6-month contract engagement with the potential to transition to permanent employment. The role is fully remote and requires the candidate to be located in Eastern or Central time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the legal function in the U.S., Canada, and LAC
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior regional commercial leaders and other key stakeholders on legal risk, strategic initiatives, business growth, operational matters, and complex decision-making
  • Provide strategic legal oversight and hands-on support for large, complex, and high-value environmental, infrastructure, engineering, energy, and sustainability projects
  • Lead and support the review, drafting, and negotiation of complex commercial agreements
  • Partner with Compliance, Risk, and Insurance colleagues to promote consistent risk management and effective controls across the region
  • Advise and support the business on U.S. government contracting and compliance with legal obligations and processes
  • Build, lead, coach, and develop a high-performing, inclusive, and collaborative regional Legal team
  • Promote teamwork, knowledge sharing, and consistent standards across the U.S., Canada, and LAC
  • Manage external counsel and other legal service providers

Requirements

  • 15+ years of post-qualification experience, including at least 5 years of experience leading and managing a high-functioning team of commercial attorneys and contract professionals
  • Substantial experience negotiating complex commercial transactions and drafting contracts
  • Prior experience supporting complex environmental, infrastructure, engineering, energy, and sustainability projects or major project work is a must
  • Licensed to practice and in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar
  • Excellent academic credentials from a U.S. accredited law school
  • Experience with, and expertise in, contracting with all levels of government, especially U.S. government, to ensure compliance with all legal obligations and processes
  • Strong commercial judgment and pragmatic problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and negotiation skills
  • Demonstrable team building, people leadership, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently within a fast-paced global environment
  • Must be located in Eastern or Central time zones

Compensation & Benefits

  • Pay: $250,000 - $260,000 when calculated on a full-time basis. Pay for contract engagements is based on multiple factors including work experience, qualifications, credentials, location, market supply/demand, and the candidate’s preference.
