A leading global blockchain ecosystem behind the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume and registered users is seeking a legal professional to advise on regulatory matters across multiple African jurisdictions and globally. The organization is trusted by over 300 million people in more than 100 countries and offers a broad portfolio of digital-asset products including trading, finance, education, research, payments, institutional services, and Web3 features.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice on regulatory issues including product offerings, licensing, marketing restrictions, compliance, AML/CTF, and other matters critical to growth across African jurisdictions such as South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya, as well as globally.
  • Draft and review strategic plans and submissions to regulatory authorities.
  • Respond to regulatory inquiries and help shape long-term regulatory strategy.
  • Guide product and marketing teams on the scope of product offerings and marketing campaigns across multiple African jurisdictions.
  • Collaborate with local teams to develop and manage legal and compliance programs and ongoing regulatory strategy across Africa.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory developments to provide strategic advice and ensure compliance.
  • Prepare leadership summaries, proposals, reports, and regulatory commentary on upcoming legislation.
  • Manage relationships with external law firms and relevant stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Admission to practice law in South Africa or a common law jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 8 years post-qualification experience at top-tier law firms and/or financial institutions.
  • Experience advising financial institutions and other businesses such as banks, investment managers, and payments platforms on regulatory matters.
  • Strong research, analytical, and document drafting skills.
  • Self-motivated and collaborative, comfortable working in a fluid environment; able to take full ownership of matters, provide practical advice, and make risk-based decisions.
  • Primarily non-contentious role; candidates with a contentious background are also welcome to apply.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Familiarity with AI tools is a plus.
