Overview
A mission-driven law firm focused on accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels is seeking a highly qualified mid-level tax associate with strong law firm experience and academic credentials. The ideal candidate will have expertise in debt financings, including large syndicated and traditional project financings, along with a solid corporate law foundation and experience in the renewable energy sector.
This is a fully remote position, allowing the attorney to work from any location where they are licensed to practice law.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a junior attorney on renewable energy transactions, particularly tax equity transactions (both investor- and sponsor-side) and tax credit transfer transactions.
- Conduct legal research and analysis on complex tax issues.
- Draft legal memoranda, opinions, and tax-related documents.
- Collaborate with clients, colleagues, and other professionals on tax matters.
- Assist with tax due diligence reviews and transactional documentation.
- Stay informed on changes in tax laws and regulations.
Requirements
- LL.M. in Taxation from an accredited law school.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- 4-7 years of law firm experience serving clients in renewable energy and related industries.
- Substantive experience advising on tax matters for renewable energy projects, including research and drafting of legal opinions.
- Familiarity with investment and production tax credits, tax equity and tax credit transfer transactions, beginning of construction analyses, FEOC, and related issues.
- Strong experience with Subchapter K.
- Ability to analyze complex tax issues and provide practical, business-oriented solutions.
- Support broader transactional tax matters across practice groups.
- Strong deal management skills, including drafting, communication, negotiation, and analytical abilities.
- Proficiency in legal research and written work product.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Admission to and good standing with the Bar in the applicant’s state of residence.
- Demonstrated alignment with and commitment to the mission of accelerating clean energy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working specifically in the renewable energy space.
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary starting at $205,000+, determined during the interview process based on experience, expertise, business needs, and market factors.
- 1,200 annual billable hour requirement.
- Bonuses for exceeding billable hour requirements and for origination of new clients and matters, based on a percentage of total revenue received.
