Overview

A Senior Attorney role is available to provide high-value legal services on complex matters, advancing organizational priorities while managing risk for assigned programs. This position requires applying advanced analytical and risk management skills to meet organizational needs efficiently and effectively. The attorney will communicate complex legal concepts and options clearly to project managers, senior management, and the Board of Directors. Ensuring that transactions and activities comply with legal standards and align with the organization's mission, authority, policies, and procedures is essential. Occasional travel and flexible or extended working hours may be required.

This is a remote position, preferably based in the Western United States or California.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent, high-value legal advice on complex matters to support organizational priorities.
  • Manage legal risk for assigned programs.
  • Negotiate real estate transactions including acquisitions, dispositions, and easements.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex, sensitive, or high-profile agreements.
  • Advise senior management and project teams on legal issues.
  • Ensure legal compliance of transactions and activities with organizational policies and mission.
  • Occasionally travel and work flexible hours as needed.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent law degree.
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant legal experience as an attorney.
  • Experience negotiating real estate transactions and complex agreements.
  • Experience advising sophisticated clients and senior management, either in-house or at a law firm.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Multilingual skills and multicultural experience.
  • Experience managing attorneys and/or legal support staff.
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: environmental due diligence and liability, commercial contracts, technology and intellectual property, commercial or real estate dispute resolution, Indian law and indigenous sovereignty, grants and public funding, tax-exempt and nonprofit organizations, and related tax issues.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and implementing strategic program goals.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting salary range: $125,000 - $195,000 (applicable to candidates employed in the USA).
  • Actual salary placement within the range depends on factors such as location, qualifications, skills, and experience.
