Overview
A Senior Construction Counsel specializing in Energy is sought to provide legal expertise in construction contracts, risk management, and dispute resolution. This role reports to the Director of Operations Counsel and offers a hybrid or remote work arrangement based in San Jose, CA. The salary range is $175,000 to $215,000, with eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
Responsibilities
- Review, negotiate, and document complex, multi-party construction contracts and change orders strategically.
- Advocate for the organization’s position while balancing risk mitigation and maintaining strong relationships with customers, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Provide practical legal counsel to project management and execution teams on contract compliance, change orders, claims, project notices, regulatory compliance, and subcontractor/supplier management.
- Assist in designing, implementing, and improving best practices for construction contract risk review, contract formation, and project execution processes.
- Deliver sophisticated legal analyses and recommendations regarding contract negotiations and dispute resolution.
- Act as a strong advocate in claims and litigation matters.
- Select and manage outside counsel to ensure high value for the organization.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in at least one state, with good standing in all admitted states.
- Minimum of 7 years of combined experience in law firm and in-house legal settings, focusing on construction law.
- Proven ability to coach and consult with internal clients effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of working well with diverse personalities in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong skills in process and organizational development.
- Highly organized with excellent prioritization abilities.
- Motivated team player with a flexible, can-do attitude.
- Creative problem solver with keen intellect.
- Proficiency in Adobe, Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
