Overview

This role involves serving as a trusted legal advisor specializing in intellectual property (IP) matters. The position requires independent ownership and critical thinking to address various IP-related issues, working closely with senior legal leadership and cross-functional business teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal advice on IP matters to executives and senior business leaders, including proactive issue-spotting, risk assessment, and problem-solving.
  • Manage and provide strategic guidance on the organization’s global IP portfolio across multiple verticals.
  • Facilitate trademark clearance searches and offer legal guidance to relevant business units.
  • Collaborate internally and externally on anti-counterfeiting and IP enforcement matters; review and evaluate enforcement cases and advise on strategy.
  • Manage third-party IP disputes, including litigation.
  • Support licensing management for the College business segment, including IP-related legal guidance, brand protection coordination, and license agreement negotiation.
  • Provide legal support on IP issues related to mergers and acquisitions.
  • Offer strategic guidance on domain name portfolio management and domain name disputes.
  • Negotiate and structure trademark license agreements and other contracts.
  • Interpret and advise on rights and obligations under existing agreements.
  • Collaborate with the broader legal team and oversee outside counsel as needed.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 8-12 years of intellectual property legal experience, including both law firm and in-house roles.
  • Litigation and patent experience are a plus but not required.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to take ownership of projects independently.
  • Flexibility and willingness to assume a wide variety of responsibilities.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work in a timely manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and confidence.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to develop alternative approaches to complex issues.
  • Strong sense of integrity.
