Overview
A leading organization in the Information Technology sector is seeking a Senior Counsel specializing in Intellectual Property. This role involves supporting high-impact initiatives that directly influence business performance and team success. The position requires collaboration across multiple functions to advance priorities, solve complex challenges, and deliver measurable results. It offers the opportunity to shape both strategic direction and daily operations within a fast-paced environment.
Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only; no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $195,349 – $254,742 annually
Responsibilities
- Develop and lead patent programs to maximize value and ensure long-term stability
- Prosecute patents related to quantum technologies, managing applications and filings
- Manage and optimize global intellectual property strategy, including patents and trade secrets
- Conduct competitive analysis and patent landscaping to support business objectives
- Serve as the primary IP partner for engineering and product teams, providing strategic advice
- Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements and support mergers and acquisitions due diligence
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school with active bar membership in good standing
- Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience as a practicing patent attorney, preferably with in-house experience
- Proven experience managing complex, global intellectual property portfolios
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration across teams
- Ability to travel monthly to engineering sites as needed
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Expertise in quantum computing technologies
- Knowledge of patent law, trade secret law, and trademarks
- Understanding of electrical engineering principles and physics
- Experience with open-source software compliance and IP litigation
- Familiarity with technology transfer and negotiation of IP-related agreements
- Understanding of quantum algorithms and semiconductor technologies
- Experience with patent prosecution processes in international jurisdictions
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance for advanced technologies
- Skills in competitive analysis and market research
