Overview

A leading life sciences and biotechnology organization is seeking a Senior Intellectual Property Counsel to protect its innovations by managing intellectual property rights and freedom to operate. This fully remote role reports to the Chief Intellectual Property Counsel and is part of the Legal Department based in Marlborough, MA.

Responsibilities

  • Provide trusted legal counsel on intellectual property matters including invention mining, patentability, patent prosecution, and freedom to operate, both locally and globally.
  • Lead outside counsel in preparing and prosecuting patent and trademark applications for assigned portions of the IP portfolio, focusing on quality, output, and cost efficiency.
  • Negotiate, draft, and review various agreements such as licenses, research collaborations, confidentiality agreements, and material transfer agreements.
  • Conduct freedom to operate assessments on emerging technologies.
  • Deliver educational presentations and training on IP topics to associates.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school with excellent academic credentials.
  • Active bar membership.
  • Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (including limited basis).
  • Experience in biology, chemistry, and physics with working knowledge of software, or alternatively, experience in software with working knowledge of life sciences.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in both law firm and in-house counsel roles.
  • Experience managing a global IP portfolio and advising business executives.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%, including overnight domestic and international trips.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual salary range: $215,667 - $237,500.
  • Eligibility for bonus/incentive pay.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, medical, dental, vision insurance, and 401(k) plan.

  • This position is fully remote with the option to work from home.
