Overview

This role involves independently managing a caseload of higher exposure and complex litigation matters, including major cases and complex claims depending on the line of business. The position requires leveraging trial experience to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions, conducting advanced legal research, drafting substantive legal documents, and providing in-depth case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claim partners. The role also includes mentoring less experienced attorneys and collaborating with expert witnesses and consultants.

Responsibilities

  • Independently handle higher exposure cases and complex litigation matters.
  • Apply litigation skills and techniques to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
  • Conduct advanced legal research and produce strong, persuasive legal writing and presentations.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents.
  • Attend court events, depositions, and other appointments independently.
  • Provide substantive case analysis and strategic recommendations to insured clients and claim partners.
  • Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants to develop case strategies and prepare testimony.
  • Build and maintain strong internal and external client and business partner relationships.
  • Provide training, seminars, and legal updates to insured clients and claim partners.
  • Mentor other attorneys and legal support staff.
  • Initiate special projects and identify opportunities to support office goals and business needs.
  • Utilize available technology, case management systems, and automation effectively.
  • Travel as required to meet business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney, specifically in insurance defense litigation.
  • Active license in good standing to practice law in the relevant state(s).
  • Proven trial experience with a strong aptitude for trying cases to a jury and a history of successful courtroom outcomes.
  • Advanced oral and written advocacy skills, including a demonstrated track record of summary judgment and/or appellate success.
  • In-depth knowledge of the bench, bar, local jurisdictional practices, and adversaries.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring and influencing others.
  • Excellent decision-making and advanced negotiation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with attention to detail, urgency, and responsiveness.
  • Flexible and agile mindset with a willingness to take on new challenges.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to hearings, trials, depositions, and other court proceedings as required.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annual base salary range: $132,800.00 - $219,100.00, determined by factors including role scope, complexity, location, skills, education, and experience.
  • Eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.
