Overview
An experienced Senior Litigation Paralegal is sought to join a Wildfire Litigation team supporting attorneys in state and federal court litigation. This fast-paced role involves collaboration with other paralegals and assistants. The position is remote but requires candidates to work within the Pacific Time zone.
Salary: $40.00 to $48.00 per hour, varying based on location, skills, experience, and qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Manage litigation cases, maintaining and updating files in Filevine and Everlaw with proper document categorization.
- Track and manage litigation deadlines including discovery, depositions, expert disclosures, pre-trial filings, and trial dates.
- Organize and index discovery responses and production files for efficient retrieval.
- Maintain case status tracking reports and circulate Case Management Conference deadlines and notices.
- Review and summarize pleadings, court orders, and procedural rulings.
- Assist in preparing and filing adoption complaints, amendments, and dismissals related to wildfire litigation.
- Oversee court e-filing processes across multiple jurisdictions.
- Assist attorneys with drafting, reviewing, and filing pleadings, motions, subpoenas, and discovery responses.
- Manage document review in Everlaw, ensuring responsive documents are properly tagged and produced.
- Coordinate discovery matters with opposing counsel and co-counsel, including meet-and-confers and deposition scheduling.
- Track, organize, and review depositions, expert reports, and witness testimony, logging summaries in Filevine.
- Prepare deposition materials such as notices, subpoenas, exhibits, and outlines.
- Maintain deposition tracking sheets and coordinate scheduling and filings.
- Compile evidence and discovery for expert review and assist in drafting motions related to discovery disputes and case dismissals.
- Conduct legal research on case law, statutes, and procedural rules to support litigation strategy.
- Stay informed on court rules, civil procedures, and jurisdiction-specific requirements.
- Ensure compliance with filing deadlines, discovery rules, and trial procedures.
- Prepare and manage trial binders, exhibits, witness lists, jury instructions, and motions in limine.
- Assist in organizing trial evidence and preparing pre-trial motions, witness outlines, and trial briefs.
- Oversee document review and production to comply with court orders and opposing counsel requests.
- Coordinate finalization of trial witness and exhibit lists and demonstrative evidence.
- Assist with jury research, including compiling jury instructions, voir dire questions, and jury analysis.
- Manage trial logistics to ensure all filings, evidence, and exhibits are prepared for court proceedings.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of litigation experience, preferably in wildfire or mass tort cases.
- Proficiency with Filevine, Everlaw, LexisNexis, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of civil litigation processes, court procedures, and jurisdiction-specific rules in California; familiarity with Hawaii, Colorado, Oregon, Washington, and/or New Mexico is a plus.
- Ability to interpret and apply state and federal laws ensuring procedural and substantive compliance.
- Skilled in legal research to support motions, pleadings, and litigation strategies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially in client and expert interactions.
- Ability to manage a high caseload efficiently while meeting strict deadlines.
- Strong proofreading and analytical skills for accuracy in legal filings and reports.
- Must meet California Business & Professions Code 6450 requirements for paralegals, including completion of an approved paralegal education program and/or qualifying work experience under licensed attorney supervision.
