Overview

A remote-first energy management organization is seeking a Senior Manager of Regulatory Affairs to advocate for distributed energy resources at federal, state, and wholesale market levels. This role involves policy development, regulatory process navigation, legal advocacy, and relationship building to support innovative energy technologies and contribute to decarbonizing and decentralizing the energy sector.

Responsibilities

  • Intervene in state regulatory proceedings by submitting comments and advocacy pleadings supporting company positions
  • Represent the organization before state commissions, ISO/RTO stakeholder committees, FERC, and other forums
  • Monitor initiatives such as rulemakings and tariff changes in 2-3 wholesale electric markets; participate in stakeholder meetings and advocate for supportive positions
  • Collaborate closely with the Energy Markets team on advocacy and regulatory policy work
  • Determine and execute courses of action individually or through trade associations to influence regulatory initiatives
  • Serve as a public advocate and spokesperson by engaging with commissioners, RTO employees, and other critical stakeholders
  • Develop deep understanding of the business by working across departments including Energy Markets, Operations, Engineering, Sales, and Finance
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory commissioners, federal and state officials, ISO/RTOs, environmental groups, consumer and trade associations
  • Manage responsibilities with limited oversight after 3-6 months of onboarding

Required Qualifications

  • 4-5 years of experience in energy policy or regulation with demonstrated successful advocacy outcomes
  • JD or other graduate degree required
  • Excellent writing skills capable of drafting regulatory filings independently
  • Strong oral communication and relationship-building skills to work effectively with industry and stakeholder partners
  • Exceptional project management skills with efficient resource allocation and judgment
  • Ability to integrate knowledge across engineering, energy markets, and finance into clear verbal and written communications
  • Comfort with measurable performance metrics and results-driven accountability

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $160,000 - $180,000 USD annually, commensurate with experience
  • Annual bonus of 10%

Location & Work Authorization

  • Fully remote position; candidates may work from any location in the US or Canada
  • Must be authorized to work from their home location
  • Moderate travel expected (up to 20%)
