Overview
Location: Remote (Texas)
This role involves serving as a Senior Staff Counsel and founding member of a new in-house litigation office based in Texas. The position focuses on representing insured clients in a variety of civil litigation matters within Texas state courts, primarily handling general liability cases. The role offers the opportunity to build a legal practice from the ground up, aligning with a technology-driven approach to insurance.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with legal and claims teams to establish and operationalize the new Texas staff counsel office.
- Develop office processes, select and implement technology solutions, and align office objectives with the broader organizational strategy.
- Independently manage a caseload, handling all phases of litigation from initial investigation through trial and post-trial activities.
- Identify and implement process improvements, including automation, workflow enhancements, and efficient digital case management consistent with a digital-first approach.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of Texas; membership in additional jurisdictions is preferred.
- Minimum of 5-9 years of proven trial attorney experience, preferably in insurance defense litigation or a related field.
- Demonstrated ability to manage a significant caseload independently and effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
- Strong knowledge of Texas law and civil procedure, particularly related to personal injury, general liability, and commercial auto cases.
- Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with legal case management software, e-discovery tools, and remote collaboration technologies.
- Strong business acumen and an ownership mentality, with the ability to leverage advancing technology and efficiency.

Compensation & Benefits
- Annual base salary range: $154,000 to $209,000 USD, depending on location, skills, experience, and education.
- Eligibility for an annual performance-based incentive program.
