Overview
The organization is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to join its 4-person legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, this role provides expert, timely legal guidance across a wide range of commercial matters and supports business partners across operations and senior management. This position requires proactive, solution-driven legal counsel with the ability to address business issues effectively and efficiently while delivering succinct, clear advice.

Responsibilities
- Provide legal and strategic advice across most areas of the organization, including intellectual property (IP), real estate, construction, entertainment-related agreements and issues, and litigation, with flexibility to own matters end-to-end.
- Draft, review, and negotiate bespoke contracts and policies, addressing commercial issues pragmatically, often without established precedent or templates.
- Deliver business-facing, actionable, practical legal advice and build strong relationships across departments including products and engineering, marketing, human resources, exhibition development, information security, and finance.
- Serve as a legal advisor to local exhibitions, including employee and labor relations, local rules and regulations, and operational troubleshooting (including but not limited to facilities, security, private events, retail, marketing, and liquor license-related business functions).
- Assist with responding to due diligence and discovery requests as they arise, and help manage external counsel in litigation matters.
- Build and refine legal processes, templates, and policies as the organization continues to scale.
Required Qualifications
- JD from an accredited law school and an active member in good standing of at least one state bar.
- At least 15 years of legal experience, including a minimum of 10 years practicing in-house at a media company across a wide array of subjects.
- Willingness to actively participate in all levels of work activity, learn new areas of law quickly, and operate effectively with limited supervision or established processes.
- Broad legal knowledge, including intellectual property, real estate, construction, corporate governance, data privacy, content licensing, and commercial contracts.
- Experience with labor relations and the USPTO is a plus.
- Exceptional drafting and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and succinctly across many areas and levels of the organization.
- High degree of professional ethics, integrity, and demonstrated gravitas, able to build confidence with senior management and all employees.
- Excellent judgment, leadership, and analytical skills; ability to anticipate legal issues and risks.
- Collaboration: willing and enthusiastic participant in a collaborative culture supporting both creative and management stakeholders in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency in time management and ability to review and process large amounts of data.
- Resilient, focused problem solver and self-starter; ability to multitask and prioritize in a complex, occasionally ambiguous environment where processes may not yet be defined.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with labor relations and the USPTO.
Compensation & Benefits
Compensation: The annual base salary range for this position is $175,000–$250,000. “Off-scale salaries” and other components of pay (including salaries higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated position grade) may be offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions.

Work Environment & Schedule
- Professional office environment using standard office equipment (e.g., computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and scanners).
- Primarily sedentary; extended sitting, computer work, and screen viewing.
- Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting (e.g., files, binders, office supplies).
- Requires mental focus, analysis of complex financial information, and sustained concentration.
- Full-time schedule; hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. or 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
- Most employees work during PT and MT zones.
Travel
This position may require travel.
