Overview

A Senior Attorney, Litigation role is available to lead the management of litigation and pre-litigation matters for a major snacks company. This position involves advising business and legal partners on complex disputes and litigation risks across various areas including consumer protection, intellectual property, tort claims, commercial contracts, employment, government investigations, and insured claims.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute global litigation strategies aligned with business objectives, values, and risk tolerance.
  • Manage litigation and pre-litigation matters from early case assessment through resolution, including investigations, discovery, motions, settlement negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trial.
  • Retain and oversee outside counsel, experts, consultants, and vendors; manage litigation budgets, fees, costs, and alternative fee arrangements.
  • Conduct fact investigations, witness interviews, and assess potential financial exposure and reputational risk.
  • Coordinate electronic discovery, document review, witness development, deposition preparation, and litigation holds.
  • Draft and edit pleadings, briefs, memoranda, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Provide practical legal advice on litigation risk, claims, regulations, packaging, and emerging legal developments.
  • Manage responses to third-party subpoenas and government or regulatory inquiries and investigations.
  • Collaborate with insurance carriers on coverage matters and insured claims.
  • Identify emerging litigation trends and develop strategies, tools, training, and best practices to mitigate risk.
  • Prepare materials and presentations for senior leadership and Board-level discussions.
  • Supervise and mentor paralegals; provide in-house training on legal issues, litigation trends, and risk mitigation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant legal experience, preferably combining law firm and in-house experience with a multinational or publicly traded company.
  • Experience defending class actions and complex commercial litigation; trial experience preferred.
  • Experience managing extensive electronic discovery, outside counsel, litigation budgets, and cross-functional projects.
  • Experience representing food, consumer packaged goods, or similarly regulated companies preferred.
  • Strong legal writing, contract drafting, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proven ability to provide practical, strategic legal advice in complex litigation and evolving regulatory environments.
  • Ability to develop creative solutions to complex legal and business challenges.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

Education

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active bar membership in good standing.
