Sr. Counsel, Core Product

Overview

An innovative technology organization is seeking an experienced, self-motivated, and creative lawyer to join a small, agile legal team. This role focuses on supporting core product and engineering teams, providing expert legal advice on cutting-edge issues related to generative AI, privacy, intellectual property, and safety. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively, and will embrace AI tools to enhance efficiency and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with strategy, engineering, product management, communications, and legal teams to identify and manage legal risks throughout all stages of product development.
• Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to senior business and legal leadership.
• Provide pragmatic and strategic legal advice on emerging areas including generative AI, content acquisition, IP/copyright, open source, and privacy.
• Develop and implement practical risk mitigation measures that increase operational speed and efficiency.
• Design and deploy scalable legal processes, automation, and AI-enabled solutions to improve guidance quality and reduce cycle times for product and engineering teams.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree with 8+ years of relevant legal experience in demanding and innovative environments.
• At least 2 years of in-house legal experience at a technology company preferred.
• Proven expertise counseling on artificial intelligence, intellectual property/copyright, safety, and privacy matters.
• Exceptional judgment, integrity, and excellent communication skills.
• Process-driven and results-oriented with the ability to independently identify, prioritize, and resolve issues quickly.
• Strategic thinker with a track record of delivering creative and pragmatic solutions to novel legal challenges.
• Strong project management skills, capable of building sustainable programs and driving cross-functional initiatives to completion.
• AI-forward mindset with experience using AI tools to accelerate analysis, simplify complex problems, and support fast-moving product development.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $158,765 to $326,870 USD annually.
• Position is eligible for equity compensation.
• Final salary is determined based on factors including location, travel, relevant experience, and specific skills.

Location & Work Model

• This is a remote position based in the United States.
• The role may require in-office collaboration 1-2 times per quarter and can be located anywhere in the country.
• This position is not eligible for relocation assistance.
