Overview
A legal counsel role is available to support Marketing and Brand teams by providing expertise in promotional material review, compliance with U.S. advertising and gaming laws, and intellectual property oversight. This position requires a business-oriented attorney experienced in marketing and IP issues within regulated industries.
Responsibilities
Marketing & Advertising Compliance
- Review and approve promotional campaigns and terms, including acquisition and retention offers, odds boosts, loyalty programs, and new product feature materials.
- Ensure marketing content complies with federal and state laws, including advertising and gaming regulations such as FTC and state gaming commission rules.
- Collaborate with creative and compliance teams to maintain clarity, fairness, and accuracy in promotional messaging.
Marketing Asset Review
- Provide legal approval for marketing assets including digital ads, emails, social media posts, affiliate content, influencer campaigns, and media buys.
- Draft compliant disclaimers and disclosures aligned with regulatory standards and brand voice.
- Review agreements and assist with compliance related to intellectual property and partnership contracts.
Strategic Legal Support
- Educate internal teams on legal risks and best practices in marketing and brand strategy.
- Monitor developments in advertising law, gambling regulations, and intellectual property trends to assess business impact.
- Support internal processes to ensure timely legal reviews that facilitate innovation.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Licensed to practice law in New York or eligible for in-house counsel registration.
- 3–6 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in-house legal department, preferably in gaming, technology, media, or entertainment sectors.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. advertising laws (FTC Act, CAN-SPAM, TCPA, NAD decisions) and gambling regulations across regulated states.
- Experience reviewing promotional terms, sweepstakes/contest rules, and digital marketing materials.
- Understanding of IAB terms and experience negotiating advertising agreements.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to provide clear, actionable advice to cross-functional teams.
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and business acumen.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in gambling, sports betting, or other highly regulated industries.
- Familiarity with state-specific regulatory nuances related to gaming and marketing.
- Knowledge of digital marketing tools, affiliate networks, and influencer compliance.
- Understanding of intellectual property law, including trademark clearance, registration, enforcement, content licensing, publicity rights, and Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) considerations.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $200,000 to $230,000 USD, varying by geographic location.
- Additional compensation includes bonuses and full-time employment benefits.
Location
The role is based in New York, with additional offices in Denver, Leeds, and Dublin.
