Overview
The organization is seeking an experienced, self-motivated, practical, and creative lawyer to join a small legal team. This role supports product and engineering teams across core consumer experience and/or ads ecosystem, serving as a subject matter expert and advisor to senior business and legal leadership.
Responsibilities span strategy and advisory work across generative AI, privacy, IP, digital advertising, and related areas, with an emphasis on translating complex legal frameworks into actionable guidance. The role also expects an AI-forward approach to improve efficiency, accelerate problem-solving, and increase speed and impact.
Responsibilities
- Partner with strategy, engineering, product management, communications, and legal teams to identify and manage legal issues and risks during all stages of product development; embed with product areas as they evolve.
- Advise teams on emerging areas including privacy, digital advertising, AI, IP/copyright, content acquisition, and data use.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex strategic product partnerships and commercial agreements critical to growth.
- Translate complex legal frameworks into simple, actionable guidance that enables teams to innovate with confidence.
- Monitor and interpret relevant laws and regulations (GDPR, CCPA, FTC rules, and others) and help teams implement compliant processes.
- Build deep, trusted relationships with senior leaders across product, engineering, and business development; influence decisions and shape strategy.
- Develop scalable legal processes, automation, and AI-enabled solutions to deliver high-quality guidance with greater speed and consistency.
Requirements
- Juris Doctorate with a minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience in a demanding and innovative legal environment; at least 1–2 years in-house at a tech company preferred.
- Experience counseling on digital advertising/ad tech or core consumer product legal issues (exposure to both is ideal).
- Some privacy background required (GDPR, CCPA, FTC rules, and related).
- Experience leading the negotiation of major technology and commercial deals, especially those tied to advertising, data, commerce, or other tech partnerships.
- Exceptional judgment and impeccable integrity with excellent communication and client-service skills.
- Proven ability to build lasting, collaborative relationships across product, engineering, and business teams.
- Strategic thinking with a track record of delivering creative and pragmatic solutions to novel issues.
- Proven ability to quickly pick up new areas of law and technical product knowledge.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to build sustainable programs and drive cross-functional initiatives to completion.
- AI-forward mindset, with experience using AI tools to accelerate analysis and deliver more effective legal advice.
- Bar membership in good standing in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–2 years in-house at a tech company (preferred).
Compensation & Benefits
- Base salary range: $158,765—$326,870 USD.
- Eligible for equity.
- Final salary is based on factors including location, travel, relevant prior experience, or particular skills and expertise.
Location
- US based applicants only.
- In-office requirement: in-person collaboration approximately 1–2 times per year; therefore, the role can be situated anywhere in the country.
- Relocation assistance: not eligible for relocation assistance.
