Overview
A leading organization in the Energy & Utilities sector is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join their team. This role involves providing legal expertise to support project execution and corporate matters within the energy storage unit. Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only; no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $195,000 – $250,000 annually
Responsibilities
- Provide legal counsel on construction and corporate issues related to energy storage projects
- Negotiate and draft a variety of contracts essential for project execution
- Assist with project management tasks, including interpreting contract language
- Manage litigation and dispute resolution processes as needed
- Maintain communication with stakeholders such as customers and vendors
- Coordinate with outside counsel while managing legal costs aligned with business objectives
Requirements
- Licensed to practice law in the United States with strong academic credentials
- Minimum of 5 years' experience drafting and negotiating construction and infrastructure contracts
- Preferably experienced in the energy industry, particularly renewable energy or energy storage
- Understanding of U.S. renewable energy incentives and compliance regulations
- Knowledge of trade-related matters including tariffs and Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) regulations
- Proven ability to lead complex commercial contract negotiations
- Willingness to travel 5-15% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with energy storage technologies such as lithium-iron phosphate batteries
- Experience with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) project management processes
- Knowledge of legal issues related to utilities and energy markets, especially utility-scale projects
- Understanding of compliance regulations such as the Office of the Business and Budget Budget Act (OBBBA)
- Experience with trade regulations including tariffs and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) compliance
