Overview

A well-established commercial insurance carrier is seeking a Senior Liability Trial Attorney to join their in-house legal team. This role involves representing commercial insureds by preparing and trying complex, high-exposure General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases.

The position offers a hybrid work model emphasizing flexibility, allowing work from home or office. The candidate should be able to report from the Maitland, Florida office (Orlando area) or work remotely from the Tampa, Florida area. Cases will be handled across central Florida, Jacksonville, and the Florida panhandle.

Responsibilities

  • Represent commercial insureds in high complexity General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases
  • Conduct all aspects of insurance defense litigation including:
    • Initial investigation and legal analysis
    • Preparing and filing pleadings and legal documents
    • Legal research
    • Pre-trial discovery
    • Handling hearings and trials
    • Post-trial activities as appropriate
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Utilize video conferencing and computer-based systems for remote team collaboration

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree
  • Minimum 7 years of litigation experience
  • Active member in good standing of the Florida State Bar
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • Experience using legal research tools such as Lexis or Westlaw
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims handling, and insurance defense litigation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience handling insurance claims and general commercial litigation including wrongful death, commercial motor vehicle torts, products and premises liability, and personal injury cases from inception through trial
  • First chair jury trial experience
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proactive approach to case management and file handling
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Ability to budget costs and calculate exposure for clients
  • Understanding of billables, diary review, and substantive/procedural legal knowledge
  • Prior experience in an insurance defense environment
  • Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • PC literate

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $140,000 to $165,000 annually
  • Eligibility for short-term incentive bonus of 15%
