Overview
An established commercial insurance carrier is seeking an experienced Trial Attorney to join their Staff Legal Team. This role involves representing commercial insureds by preparing and trying moderate to high exposure General Liability cases. The position is remote, based in the Austin or San Antonio, Texas area.
Responsibilities
- Represent commercial insureds in all phases of litigation
- Conduct initial investigations and legal analysis
- Provide legal advice and evaluate damages
- Prepare and file legal pleadings and documents
- Perform legal research
- Manage pre-trial discovery
- Prepare for and conduct hearings and trials
- Handle post-trial activities as appropriate
- Mentor less experienced attorneys and provide leadership and training
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree
- Minimum of 7 years of litigation experience
- Membership in the Texas State Bar in good standing
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe
- Experience using Lexis or Westlaw
- Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and insurance defense litigation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with insurance industry claims and general commercial litigation, including wrongful death, commercial motor vehicle torts, products and premises liability, and personal injury cases from inception through trial
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proactive approach to file handling and caseload management
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Relevant first chair jury trial experience
- Ability to budget costs and calculate exposure for clients
- Efficient work habits and understanding of billables and diary review
- Functional and extensive knowledge of law and procedure
- Prior experience in an insurance defense environment
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills
- PC literate
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $150,000 to $180,000 annually
- Eligibility for a short-term incentive bonus of 15%
