Overview

This role is primarily remote within the state of Nevada, with required in-person appearances as needed.

Compensation includes a base salary and yearly performance bonus. The yearly bonus amount will be discussed during the interview process.

Responsibilities

  • Use litigation protocols to develop and revise legal strategy for discovery, investigation, handling, and trial/hearing of workers’ compensation matters.
  • Conduct appearances before the Workers Compensation Board, including depositions and drafting/filing summations, appeals, and rebuttals.
  • Research applicable law and draft legal documents, pleadings, motions, briefs, and opinions as required.
  • If requested, conduct settlement negotiations.
  • Advise, communicate, and confer with Claims Representatives and insured clients; provide clear and unambiguous legal opinions and advice.
  • Maintain good relations and communications with Claims Representatives and insured clients as required.
  • Stay current with developments in the law and understand relevant medical, scientific, construction, products, engineering, and similar issues and defenses.
  • Prepare and conduct training sessions for Legal, Claims, or other departments as required.
  • Provide daily direction and guidance to junior attorneys.
  • Apply technology to improve the quality and reduce the cost of legal processes, including use of technology and remote collaboration.
  • Serve as a team or group leader for an assigned group handling workers’ compensation cases.
  • Interface with the Home Office Legal department.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the bar in Nevada and in good standing; special licenses to practice before particular boards or federal courts may be required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful attorney experience; Workers Compensation experience required.
  • Experience with settlement conferences, expedited hearings, and conducting depositions; trial experience preferred.
  • Proven experience managing moderately complex litigation with demonstrated success in achieving favorable outcomes.
  • General knowledge of insurance law, and as necessary, workers compensation and/or No Fault law.
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in advanced e-discovery tools, legal case management software, and remote collaboration technologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead junior attorneys and legal staff.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client relationship management skills.
  • Commitment to ethical legal practice and compliance with all regulatory and professional standards.
