Overview
This role is primarily remote in downstate New York, with required appearances as needed. The position is within a complex litigation team.
The organization is seeking a skilled, proactive Attorney to independently manage moderately complex civil litigation matters involving claims for monetary damages or compensation for personal injuries or property damage of moderate value.
Responsibilities
- Litigation management and execution: Independently manage all phases of litigation involving claims of moderate to heavy value. Conduct legal research; draft pleadings, motions, and other legal documents. Lead settlement negotiations and participate in hearings, trials, and mediations to achieve optimal case outcomes.
- Litigation support: Support Senior Trial Counsel and Senior Litigation Counsel throughout trial, including preparation, management, and assistance at every stage of the litigation process.
- Legal strategy development: Develop, implement, and continuously refine advanced legal strategies for discovery, investigation, and trial preparation.
- Technology utilization: Use advanced e-discovery tools, case management systems, and data analysis software to streamline workflows and reduce costs.
- Client advisory and relationship management: Provide clear, well-reasoned legal opinions and strategic advice to clients and Claims Representatives. Build and sustain trusted relationships by understanding client operations and legal challenges.
- Risk evaluation and mitigation: Identify, evaluate, and mitigate legal risks in collaboration with clients and senior attorneys.
- Training, mentoring, and leadership: Design and conduct training sessions and workshops for Legal, Claims, and related departments. Mentor junior attorneys and legal support staff.
- Documentation and compliance: Ensure legal documents are accurate, meticulously prepared, and compliant with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies. Adhere to ethical guidelines, licensing requirements, and the Model Rules of Professional Conduct (MRPC).
- Organizational improvement and innovation: Identify and implement opportunities for process automation and workflow enhancements.
Requirements
- Education: Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
- Licensure: Admission to the bar in New York and in good standing; special licenses to practice before particular boards or federal courts may be required.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of successful trial attorney experience, preferably within insurance law and related litigation.
- Litigation track record: Demonstrated success managing moderately complex litigation and achieving favorable outcomes.
- Legal knowledge: General knowledge of insurance law; workers compensation and/or No Fault law as necessary.
- Skills: Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Technology: Proficiency in advanced e-discovery tools, legal case management software, and remote collaboration technologies.
- Leadership: Ability to mentor and lead junior attorneys and legal staff.
- Communication: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client relationship management skills.
- Professional standards: Commitment to ethical legal practice and compliance with regulatory and professional standards.

The full salary range reflects the competitive labor market value for employees in these positions across the national market and includes opportunities to progress as employees grow and develop within the role.
