Overview

A contract opportunity is available for a Legal Reasoning Problem Author to support the development of AI systems trained on legal reasoning and judicial language. This role involves reviewing and annotating U.S. court opinions and legal filings, applying legal judgment to evaluate case outcomes and reasoning quality, and completing structured tasks with consistency and accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Review and annotate U.S. court opinions and legal filings sourced from CourtListener.
  • Evaluate case outcomes, reasoning quality, and document classification using legal judgment.
  • Complete structured annotation tasks accurately and consistently.
  • Support AI model development by providing high-quality legal reasoning data.
  • Work independently and asynchronously to meet deadlines.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of professional legal experience at a law firm, in-house legal department, government agency, or legal research organization.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.), Master of Laws (LL.M.), or equivalent legal degree from a top U.S. university.
  • Experience with U.S. federal or state court systems.
  • Strong reading comprehension of legal texts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in legal data annotation or involvement in AI/machine learning projects.
  • Familiarity with CourtListener or similar legal data sources.

Compensation & Commitment

  • Contract position
  • Hourly rate: $55–$135
  • Expected commitment: approximately 15 hours per week
