Overview
An established national insurance and litigation organization is seeking an experienced Trial Attorney / Insurance Defense Attorney to manage moderately complex civil litigation matters throughout California. This primarily remote position requires court appearances and litigation-related travel as needed.
Responsibilities
- Independently manage all phases of civil litigation involving personal injury and property damage claims
- Handle cases from initial assessment through settlement, trial, and resolution
- Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other litigation documents
- Develop and implement litigation, discovery, investigation, and trial strategies
- Lead settlement negotiations, mediations, hearings, and trial proceedings
- Support senior litigation counsel on complex matters throughout all litigation phases
- Evaluate legal risks and formulate effective case handling strategies
- Advise clients and claims professionals on litigation strategy and case exposure
- Utilize e-discovery platforms, case management systems, and litigation technologies to enhance efficiency
- Ensure compliance with ethical standards, legal requirements, and internal policies
- Mentor junior attorneys and legal support staff
- Assist with training initiatives and contribute to process improvements and operational efficiencies
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active membership in good standing with the California Bar
- Minimum of 5 years of litigation and trial experience
- Experience handling personal injury, insurance defense, or related civil litigation matters
- Strong courtroom, deposition, mediation, and settlement negotiation skills
- Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and advocacy abilities
- Familiarity with insurance law and claims-related litigation
- Proficiency with litigation technology, e-discovery tools, and case management systems
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and client management skills
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities
