Overview

An organization is seeking an experienced Telecom & Compliance Counsel to support a fast-growing AI-native customer service platform. This is a part-time, as-needed engagement averaging approximately 10 hours per week. The role is fully remote and open to licensed attorneys in any U.S. jurisdiction.

The platform recently launched a native voice/phone channel integrated directly into its helpdesk system. The counsel will address a defined set of compliance, contractual, and privacy issues related to this launch. This is a targeted engagement focused on telecom and VoIP regulatory matters rather than a broad in-house legal role.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and review Terms & Conditions and Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) language for the new voice channel, including liability allocation and transfer provisions between the platform and its voice customers.
  • Advise on subprocessor integration from privacy and contractual perspectives, including necessary updates to the privacy policy.
  • Analyze and advise on number portability obligations, including company responsibilities and structuring terms to manage liability.
  • Address GDPR and cross-border personally identifiable information (PII) issues arising from call recordings, focusing on EU customer data flows and applicable consent and localization requirements.
  • Provide guidance on TCPA and FCC compliance considerations for the voice product, including consent frameworks, recordkeeping, and carrier/platform-level obligations.
  • Offer practical, business-oriented advice to product, engineering, and legal teams as telecom-related compliance questions arise.

Requirements

  • Licensed attorney with at least 7 years of substantive experience in telecom, VoIP, or communications law.
  • Familiarity with FCC regulations, TCPA, and carrier/platform compliance.
  • Working knowledge of GDPR and cross-border data privacy issues related to call recordings and voice communications; familiarity with CCPA is a plus.
  • Experience advising on Terms & Conditions and Acceptable Use Policy drafting for communications platforms, VoIP providers, or SaaS companies with telephony features.
  • Comfortable advising on number portability and related regulatory obligations.
  • Practical and commercially minded, able to quickly identify live issues, document needs, and provide actionable guidance.
  • Able to operate independently in a fast-moving, lean environment.
  • Active bar admission in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction (no specific state license required).
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Outstanding professional references.
