Overview
A boutique San Diego litigation practice is seeking a California-licensed Trust & Estate Litigation Attorney for a part-time contract role (approximately 25 hours per week). This fully remote position offers hands-on litigation experience with close mentorship and oversight from experienced partners.
This role is ideal for an attorney aiming to deepen expertise in trust and estate disputes, handle complex and sensitive matters involving estates, fiduciaries, beneficiaries, and family assets, and gain meaningful responsibility in a flexible remote setting.
Responsibilities
- Litigate trust and estate disputes, including will and trust contests, breach of fiduciary duty claims, accounting disputes, creditor claims, trustee/beneficiary conflicts, and related probate and civil matters.
- Draft and argue motions, pleadings, and briefs; manage written discovery; support depositions, mediations, and trial preparation.
- Assist in developing case strategy and crafting practical, client-centered solutions balancing legal rights, family dynamics, and fiduciary obligations.
- Provide professional communication to beneficiaries, trustees, fiduciaries, and family members involved in sensitive, high-stakes matters.
- Collaborate closely with partners on complex disputes, taking direction as needed while independently managing assignments.
- Organize and manage a busy docket, including tracking deadlines, preparing case materials, coordinating filings, and ensuring efficient case progression.
- Maintain strong responsiveness and communication while working fully remote during West Coast business hours.
Requirements
- Licensed to practice law in California and in good standing.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in trust & estate or probate litigation.
- Strong legal research, writing, and motion practice skills.
- Ability to take direction and implement partner feedback effectively.
- Desire to build or continue building a specialized practice in trust & estate litigation.
- Organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple tasks while communicating effectively within a small team.
- Comfortable working directly with clients under partner supervision, especially in sensitive family- and wealth-related matters.
- Comfortable working remotely and available during West Coast business hours.
- Outstanding professional references.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a boutique litigation environment.
- Prior involvement in complex trust and estate disputes.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annualized pay ranges from $210,000 to $250,000 on a full-time basis; contract pay rates depend on experience, qualifications, credentials, location, market factors, and candidate preferences.
- W2 employment status with eligibility for full benefits when working 20+ hours per week, including a qualified 401(k) plan.

- CLE and professional expense stipends provided.
