Overview
A growing intellectual property practice is seeking a U.S. Patent Attorney with a strong technical background in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a closely related discipline. This role offers autonomy, ownership of your practice, and the opportunity to contribute to the development of a modern patent firm.
This position is suited for attorneys who want to move beyond traditional law firm structures, align their work directly with their contributions, and engage deeply with sophisticated technologies and clients.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications in electrical engineering, computing, and related technologies
- Advise clients on patent strategy, portfolio development, and intellectual property protection
- Work directly with clients on invention disclosures, drafting strategy, and prosecution decisions
- Interpret and apply patent laws, USPTO guidance, and evolving best practices
- Manage docket, deadlines, and overall matter execution
- Contribute to quality control, process improvement, and firm-wide best practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a closely related field
- Registration to practice before the USPTO as a patent attorney
- Minimum of 3 years of private practice experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications
- Experience drafting and/or prosecuting a significant number of U.S. patent applications in electrical engineering, computing, or related subject matter
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing patent portfolios and advising clients on long-term IP strategy
- Deep familiarity with one or more technical areas such as analog circuitry, digital logic, processor architectures, semiconductor design, power electronics, or embedded systems
- Experience operating with a high degree of independence in client-facing matters
