Overview
An established labor and employment law firm is seeking an experienced Labor & Employment litigation attorney to join as Special Counsel in a virtual office setting. This full-time, non-partner-track role supports a dedicated Professional Employer Organization (PEO) client and involves managing employment matters with a focus on high-quality service.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day employment litigation matters, including administrative charges, attorney demand letters, and EPLI-covered claims.
- Develop case strategies; draft and review pleadings and motions.
- Conduct and defend depositions; represent clients in hearings, conferences, mediations, and trials.
- Supervise and mentor attorneys and legal staff.
- Coordinate closely with partners, associates, paralegals, and support teams.
- Maintain proactive communication with the PEO client, its clients, and the insurance carrier.
- Handle primarily single-plaintiff matters, with potential involvement in class actions and PAGA cases.
- Participate regularly in in-person court proceedings, depositions, mediations, hearings, and other litigation-related events.
- Travel regularly within Northern California.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Minimum of seven years of employment law and litigation experience.
- Active bar membership in good standing; California admission required.
- Comfortable with consistent in-person advocacy and client representation.
- Reside in Northern California and be readily available for ongoing in-person court appearances and related proceedings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working independently in a remote environment.
- Experience with Professional Employer Organizations (PEOs).
- Experience managing high-volume matters for a large client.
- Experience handling Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) claims and carrier relationships.
Compensation & Benefits
- Annual salary range: $190,000 - $205,000, with actual base pay determined by factors such as billable hours target.
