Overview
A leading organization in the Finance & Insurance sector is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Employment Counsel to join their team remotely. This role involves supporting high-impact legal work that directly contributes to business performance and team success. The position requires collaboration across functions to advance priorities, solve complex problems, and deliver measurable outcomes. It offers the opportunity to influence both strategic direction and day-to-day execution in a fast-paced environment.
Location: Remote (U.S. based candidates only; no visa sponsorship available)
Compensation: $140,000 – $190,000 annually
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and revise employment-related agreements and letters
- Support Human Resources on various matters including performance management and leave accommodations
- Provide training to HR and recruitment teams on employment law updates
- Assist in drafting HR-related policies and procedures
- Advise on restrictive covenants and manage related correspondence
- Negotiate pre-litigation employment disputes and manage outside counsel as necessary
- Offer counsel to improve strategies for risk mitigation related to employee issues
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree required, preferably a doctorate in law
- 4-7 years of labor and employment experience in a corporate legal department or recognized law firm
- Experience advising on employment law matters and restrictive covenants
- Licensed to practice law in at least one state, preferably Texas, New York, or California
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and planning skills
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Experience with legal research databases such as Westlaw or LexisNexis
- Familiarity with employment law compliance software
- Experience using Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) for drafting and reviewing HR documentation
- Skills in negotiation and mediation tools for pre-litigation management
- Knowledge of privacy management tools for handling confidential employee information
