Overview

A fast-paced cloud software organization is seeking a Corporate and Employment Counsel to join its collaborative legal team. This role involves providing legal support primarily to the People function, as well as the Go-to-Market and Procurement teams. The position requires advising on employment law matters, managing outside counsel, and supporting general corporate legal needs. This is a remote position reporting to a Director of Legal.

Responsibilities

  • Provide employment law counsel and legal advice to the People team and other departments with customer-facing responsibilities.
  • Support the global Legal and People teams on a wide variety of employment law matters.
  • Act as a versatile legal resource by assisting with general corporate matters, commercial contracts, and other legal projects as business needs evolve.
  • Collaborate with Legal team members across multiple domestic and international offices to develop employment policies aligned with the broader legal strategy.
  • Manage outside counsel, including guidance, staffing, case management, and budget oversight; work closely with outside counsel in Costa Rica and assist with employee relations issues.
  • Contribute to improving standard agreements, alternate language playbooks, and internal resource documents related to employment and other legal areas.
  • Manage a portfolio of employment matters such as unemployment claims, administrative audits, agency charges, and workers' compensation claims.
  • Deliver legal training and guidance to management on legal issues, best practices, and company policies.
  • Lead and conduct sensitive internal investigations with empathy, objectivity, and discretion.
  • Support general business operations and complete special projects as requested.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in a state bar.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant legal practice, preferably including experience at a top-tier employment law firm.
  • Substantive experience litigating a wide variety of employment matters, including complex litigation and administrative/agency matters.
  • Ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, actionable advice for non-legal business partners.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to recommend practical solutions balancing legal and business risks.
  • Composure and influence in high-pressure or contentious situations.
  • Proven ability to build strong partnerships with legal colleagues and business stakeholders.
  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to assist others.
  • Persistent attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment emphasizing excellence, execution, and teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing outside counsel and handling international legal matters.
  • Background in conducting internal investigations.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base salary range: $115,000 - $165,000 USD, determined by experience, skills, and location.
