Product Counsel

Overview

This role serves as Product Counsel for a team building and expanding an e-commerce and grocery delivery platform, including rapid growth into new international markets, physical hardware, and retailer-facing platforms. You will partner closely with product, engineering, and design from the start to identify legal risks early, create scalable compliance frameworks, and help teams ship with confidence while navigating evolving regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

• Support product teams launching new products by identifying jurisdiction-specific legal risks early.
• Build scalable compliance frameworks that can be reused across new initiatives.
• Work alongside product, engineering, and design to develop creative, practical solutions to legal issues raised by product initiatives.
• Improve cross-functional legal processes by identifying leverage points and introducing AI-assisted workflows to reduce time-to-answer for recurring legal questions across Product, BD, and Operations.
• Proactively map and manage legal exposure across consumer protection, payments, privacy, and commercial compliance, including documented risk frameworks and clear escalation paths.
• Manage competing priorities independently across multiple teams in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• J.D. from a top-tier law school with active bar membership in at least one U.S. state.
• 5+ years of legal experience at a leading law firm or in-house legal department.
• Familiarity with legal issues in Internet and e-commerce spaces, including commercial, copyright, privacy, advertising, payments, and SaaS.
• Creative, business-minded approach to legal problem-solving, including the ability to find practical paths forward on novel issues while working within product constraints.
• Ability to provide clear, concise legal advice and drive results cross-functionally.
• Proven ability to independently manage competing priorities across multiple teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Comfort working with AI tools to drive efficiency and streamline legal processes.

Preferred Qualifications

• In-house experience at a tech company or retailer, directly or via secondment.
• Experience with technology platforms.
• Background in antitrust, consumer protection, platform businesses, or privacy/data security law, including GDPR and US-EU Privacy Shield.

• This role is remote. Base pay range depends on permanent work location.
• Offers may vary based on factors such as candidate experience and skills required for the role.
• Role is eligible for a new hire equity grant as well as annual refresh grants.

US base pay ranges

• CA, NY, CT, NJ: $231,000—$244,000 USD
• WA: $221,000—$233,500 USD
• OR, DE, ME, MA, MD, NH, RI, VT, DC, PA, VA, CO, TX, IL, HI: $212,000—$224,000 USD
• All other states: $193,000—$203,500 USD
