Overview
This role serves as the primary lawyer supporting an AI and data-privacy legal strategy across product development and launches. Responsibilities include ownership of legal positions for AI product portfolios—including in-editor and desktop AI agents, generative tooling, an agent plugin ecosystem, and ML systems powering ad monetization—as well as the identity and data-rights frameworks those products depend on.
This position involves addressing unsettled legal questions related to generative output ownership, training data eligibility where games embed third-party marketplace assets, and telemetry practices and consent.
Responsibilities
- Serve as primary legal counsel for the AI product portfolio, covering the end-to-end lifecycle from concept through launch and iteration.
- Own data-rights and identity frameworks underpinning the organization’s Grow business, including:
- Developer data-use architecture
- Training-data eligibility
- Device identifiers and cross-product data flows
- Counsel product, engineering, and data-science teams while features are designed, translating privacy, IP, and regulatory constraints into implementation requirements.
- Draft and negotiate agreements to enable the roadmap, including:
- Model and technology provider licenses
- Partnership and referral agreements
- Research collaborations and data-sharing arrangements
- Set and defend written legal positions on emerging AI and data questions.
- Build scalable legal templates, playbooks, and guidance so positions can be applied across teams.
Requirements
- Licensed to practice law, with in-house or law-firm experience counseling technology product teams directly.
- Demonstrated ownership of legal counseling for AI or machine-learning products, including training-data rights, model licensing, output ownership, and user-facing disclosures.
- Working command of global privacy law, including GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and COPPA, applied to SDKs, telemetry, and advertising data flows (not only policy documentation).
- Ability to draft and negotiate commercial technology agreements independently, from first redline to signature.
- Track record of issuing clear written legal positions on unprecedented questions and defending them with senior stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications (Optional)
- Experience in games, interactive entertainment, or a developer-platform business.
- Mobile advertising or ad tech background (e.g., mediation, attribution, programmatic, or measurement).
- Hands-on EU AI Act or comparable emerging-AI-regulation assessment work.
- Open-source licensing depth, including license compatibility for datasets and embedded assets.
- Experience building legal self-service infrastructure for fast-moving product organizations.
- Comfort using AI tools in legal practice.
