Associate Attorney, South Dakota

Overview

A consumer protection law firm specializing in representing clients who have been harassed or deceived by creditors and debt collectors is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney. The firm is based in the Financial District of New York City but this position is remote and specifically for candidates located in South Dakota.

Responsibilities

• Manage and supervise a heavy and diversified caseload of clients in South Dakota
• Communicate regularly with clients regarding their legal matters
• Draft pleadings, motions, legal memoranda, and review and draft agreements
• Negotiate and communicate with opposing parties to resolve or settle claims
• Conduct legal research on contract law and other consumer law issues
• Attend court appearances as required (travel necessary despite remote work)

Requirements

• Admission to practice law in South Dakota is mandatory
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant law firm experience
• Strong organizational and time-management skills to meet deadlines
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• High ethical standards and professional integrity
• Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with senior management and colleagues
• Proficient legal research skills; experience with LexisNexis is a plus
• Must currently reside in South Dakota

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $90,000 - $100,000 per year, commensurate with experience

Additional Information

This position requires communication with the main office via telephone and electronic means such as email and Microsoft Teams. The employer participates in E-Verify and will verify work authorization through Form I-9 submission to the federal government.
