Overview

This role is remote in the United States, with a preference for the East Coast. The Associate Counsel, Employment serves as a trusted legal advisor on employment and labor-related matters, including employee relations, recruiting, benefits, people operations, disputes, policies, and other related responsibilities.

Reporting to the Senior Counsel, Employment, this position partners with teams across the organization, including People, Information Security, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Product, and Content.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal and strategic advice on global employment matters, including employee relations, terminations, compliance, background screenings, benefits, immigration, recruiting, compensation, and related issues
  • Assist in managing employment-related disputes, complaints, litigation, and investigations
  • Draft, negotiate, and review employment-related agreements, addenda, and amendments
  • Partner with the People team in the development of people policies
  • Advise on the use of AI technology in employee relations, recruiting/hiring, and other employment processes
  • Stay current on shifting global employment laws, regulations, and industry guidance
  • Help create and enhance playbooks to establish company parameters and scale the legal function as the organization grows
  • Work effectively in a dynamic environment across different functional groups and time zones

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to, and good standing with a state bar
  • Minimum of 3+ years’ experience advising clients on employment and labor-related matters in-house or with a nationally recognized law firm (or a combination)
  • Knowledge of employment laws and regulations, including Title VII, Americans with Disabilities Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Equal Employment Opportunity laws, wage and hour laws, background check laws, benefits laws, immigration, and other international, federal, state, and local laws
  • Strong business acumen and a commitment to responsive client service
  • Ability to take a business-friendly and pragmatic approach while balancing legal risk
  • Strong negotiation skills, including the ability to support difficult positions in a patient and firm manner
  • Effective communication skills with internal and external professionals of all types and backgrounds

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base compensation range: $145,000—$165,000 USD
  • Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience/expertise and may vary from the amounts listed.
  • Performance-based bonus, equity, and a generous benefits program may also be offered.

Location

Remote in the United States (preference for the East Coast). Salary ranges are shared for all job postings regardless of desired hiring location to comply with local legislation and improve transparency.
