Overview
A management-level attorney position is available to lead a team of lawyers and legal professionals supporting the personal auto operations within a major US retail insurance business unit with $27 billion in revenue. This role provides legal support and guidance for personal auto insurance products, including product design, pricing, underwriting, forms, telematics, and state management operations. The managing attorney will oversee legal strategy and resource allocation aligned with the business unit's strategic priorities.
Responsibilities
- Manage goals, capacity, performance, and professional development of team members and direct reports.
- Maintain visibility and communicate broadly across teams; collaborate strategically on key initiatives within the personal auto insurance product team.
- Represent and advise the organization on significant legal and business matters requiring insurance regulatory expertise, including original legal analysis, complex or novel issues, and adversarial proceedings.
- Conduct comprehensive legal research and analysis in assigned specialty areas; direct and refine research efforts by others.
- Drive operational excellence within the legal team by enhancing knowledge sharing, documentation, and effective use of tools and technology.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or Bachelor of Laws (L.L.B.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar of at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Typically 15 to 20 years of experience as a practicing attorney.
- Experience advising on personal-lines insurance products, including product design, underwriting, and pricing.
- Expert knowledge of insurance regulatory law.
- Excellent analytical, legal writing, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with corporate operations and a proactive work approach.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across internal teams, outside counsel, and external representatives.
- Management experience and/or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation preferred.
