English to Japanese - Legal (Judiciary) Translator and /or Editor

Freelance English-to-Japanese Legal Translator and/or Editor

This is a remote position with ongoing, as-needed freelance/contract work.

Responsibilities

• Provide English-to-Japanese legal translation and/or editing services
• Deliver high-quality work remotely with strong written accuracy
• Apply U.S. legal, judicial, and technical terminology in English and Japanese

Requirements

• Minimum of three years of professional experience providing legal translation and/or editing services
• Native-level Japanese and English writing skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. legal, judicial, and technical terminology in English and Japanese
• Bachelor’s degree in a foreign language, linguistics, translation, or a comparable field
• Experience using computer-assisted translation tools; Trados experience is preferred
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines

Security and Citizenship Requirements

• Applicants must be U.S. citizens
• Applicants must be willing to complete security clearance processing, including fingerprinting, if selected

Availability

• Generally available between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on most weekdays
• Able to accept on-demand assignments totaling approximately 10 to 15 hours per week, as needed
