Overview
An experienced Healthcare Regulatory Attorney is sought to support a national healthcare company on a part-time, remote engagement basis (approximately 10 hours per week). This engagement is expected to last multiple months with immediate start. Candidates must be licensed to practice law in any U.S. jurisdiction and may be located anywhere in the United States.
The organization operates in the Medicare Advantage and value-based care space and is preparing for an upcoming arbitration matter. The role requires a regulatory specialist (not a litigator) to serve as a subject-matter expert on Medicare Advantage and value-based care issues central to the dispute. This focused, high-impact engagement is well suited to solo practitioners, small firm attorneys, or in-house counsel with capacity for a discrete project.
Responsibilities
- Analyze Medicare Advantage and value-based care regulatory frameworks relevant to the pending arbitration, including CMS program requirements, payment methodologies, risk adjustment, and payer-provider contractual arrangements.
- Serve as the healthcare regulatory subject-matter expert supporting arbitration preparation, collaborating with company leadership and outside litigation counsel.
- Review key documents, agreements, and factual positions through a regulatory lens and advise on applicable rules and CMS guidance related to the dispute.
- Develop and pressure-test regulatory arguments, identify strengths and vulnerabilities in the company's positions, and translate complex regulatory concepts for the arbitration team.
- Provide practical, responsive guidance on Medicare Advantage and value-based care regulatory questions arising during the engagement.
Requirements
- Licensed attorney in good standing in any U.S. jurisdiction.
- J.D. from an accredited law school.
- 5–7+ years of healthcare regulatory experience with deep familiarity in Medicare Advantage and value-based care arrangements.
- Strong working knowledge of CMS regulations and guidance, including payment structures, risk-based contracting, and regulatory relationships between providers and payors.
- Experience supporting disputes, arbitrations, or government inquiries from a regulatory perspective is a plus (note: this is a regulatory role, not litigation).
- Experience at a full-service or healthcare-focused law firm, or in-house with a health plan, value-based provider, or other healthcare organization.
- Ability to work independently, ramp up quickly, and deliver clear, practical analysis on a part-time schedule.
- Outstanding references.
