Insurance Coverage Attorney

Overview

A Chicago-based law firm is seeking an Insurance Coverage Attorney with over 3 years of experience to join its Insurance Coverage and Litigation Practice. This role offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated insurance coverage matters in a collaborative, fast-paced environment alongside experienced practitioners. Attorneys in this position gain hands-on experience, direct client interaction, and mentorship while representing national, regional, and international insurance carriers in complex coverage disputes across various insurance lines.

Responsibilities

• Manage litigation caseloads from inception through resolution
• Analyze insurance policies and evaluate complex coverage issues
• Draft coverage opinions, reservation of rights letters, disclaimer letters, and other coverage-related correspondence
• Litigate insurance coverage matters, including handling depositions, motion practice, mediations, hearings, and trials
• Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, legal memoranda, and other litigation documents
• Communicate directly with clients, providing strategic guidance and regular case updates
• Collaborate with attorneys across offices and practice groups on complex coverage and litigation matters

Qualifications

• Admission to practice in Illinois is required; admission in Indiana is a plus
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in insurance coverage and/or insurance coverage litigation
• Strong analytical, writing, research, and communication skills
• Ability to independently manage multiple matters in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent organizational, case management, and interpersonal skills

• Professional liability coverage
• Directors & Officers (D&O) liability coverage
• Financial institutions coverage
• Coverage opinion drafting and policy analysis
• Insurance coverage litigation, including motion practice and depositions

Compensation & Benefits

• Base salary range: $130,000 – $200,000 (salary is an estimate; actual compensation depends on location, experience, skills, and qualifications)
