Legal Citation Specialist, Part-Time AI Citation Evaluation - Remote (United States)

Overview

• Pay: $50–$80 per hour (paid hourly as an independent contractor)
• Schedule: Part-time; fully flexible schedule (no fixed shifts)
• Location: 100% remote; United States
• Work focus: Legal AI training and evaluation centered on The Bluebook citation rules, including pincites, short forms, signals, and parentheticals.

This role involves helping teams building legal AI systems by creating realistic citation problems, grading whether responses follow Bluebook rules, writing correct citation-style answers, and explaining where an AI’s citation falls short.

Responsibilities

• Review and check grading guidance for Bluebook citations and pincites; flag instructions that are unclear, incomplete, or applied inconsistently
• Assess unusual citation cases and advise on the proper treatment
• Build cite-checking exercises using source material
  • Document mistakes
  • Provide corrected answers
  • Explain why the corrected citation is correct
• Use Bluebook rules to evaluate citation format, pincites, and source support
• Clearly state the basis for marking each citation right or wrong

Requirements

• Current law student (especially year two or three) or a JD graduate
• Strong, practical command of The Bluebook, including:
  • pincites
  • short forms
  • signals
  • parentheticals
• Ability to explain an incorrect citation
• Professional fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications

• No AI experience needed—your legal citation expertise is the focus. Training on the tools will be provided.
