Remote · US Part Time
$195K – $260K/yr

Overview

This role involves joining a 12-week AI training sprint as a contract contributor. The work focuses on legal domain evaluation and improvement of AI-generated responses related to legal research, contract analysis, and statutory and case law interpretation, along with related subject matter.

Contributors will both assess AI outputs and help create realistic, challenging tasks—complete with scenarios, supporting files, and grading rubrics—to evaluate and improve AI systems used by legal professionals.

This is not a traditional legal role: there is no client representation, no billable-hour targets, and no court appearances.

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate AI-generated responses to legal prompts for accuracy, clarity, and professional appropriateness
  • Annotate and rank model outputs to guide AI training and improvement
  • Write clear, expert-level answers to legal questions that serve as model training examples
  • Flag errors, misconceptions, or ambiguous outputs and provide corrective guidance
  • Propose, design, and build realistic tasks drawn from professional experience, including:
    • Scenario and prompt
    • Realistic supporting input files
    • A detailed grading rubric for AI performance
  • Run tasks against AI models and iterate based on expert reviewer feedback
  • Follow detailed written instructions precisely, including document and upload format requirements
  • Maintain consistent quality and throughput throughout the sprint engagement

Requirements

  • Demonstrated legal experience (litigation, corporate/transactional, compliance, or similar); does not need to be a currently practicing attorney
  • J.D. and bar admission not required, though preferred; practical legal expertise matters more than credentials
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and concisely
  • Hands-on practitioner experience at a detailed, individual-contributor level (not solely managerial)
  • Careful reading of written instructions and receptiveness to feedback and revision cycles
  • Baseline tech literacy, including comfort with cloud file tools (e.g., Google Workspace), managing browser profiles, and downloading/installing desktop apps (e.g., Claude), plus everyday file handling (e.g., converting between Excel and Google Sheets, zipping files for sharing)
  • Comfortable working independently in a remote, self-directed environment
  • Based in the United States

Position Details

  • Type: Contract
  • Schedule: Must be available 30-40 hours per week for 12 weeks, but can work on your time
  • Location: Remote

Compensation & Benefits

  • Annualized pay range (full-time equivalent): $195,000 to $260,000
  • Contract pay is based on multiple factors including work experience, qualifications, credentials, location, market supply/demand, and candidate preference (each candidate’s pay rate affects the client bill rate and can affect competitiveness for the position).

Confidentiality

  • The employer will not propose candidates to prospective clients without prior consent.
  • Candidates selected for further consideration will be contacted.
